Whatever we do affects everything and everyone, even in the tiniest ways. When
a butterfly flaps its wings, a breeze goes round the world.
Hailey Anne Streater, 27, of Statesboro Georgia left us suddenly on March 8,
2023. Like a butterfly, Hailey now flies free, but her bubbly personality and the
warmth of her smile have forever touched the lives of those she met and those
she loved.
She was born on August 27, 1995, in Millersburg, Ohio, and was officially
welcomed into the Streater family on December 15, 1998. She attended and
graduated from Richland 2 schools in 2014, ranked #2 in her class, and later
attended Columbia College and Midlands Technical College.
Hailey’s smile could light up any room. She had an infectious personality and
always a positive outlook despite her internal struggles. She was a beautiful
dancer and performer who lit up the stage with her grace. She was also an
imaginative and creative thinker (and creative speller ;)). In our family, she alone
loved the thrills of roller coasters and horror movies. She loved being connected
with her family, especially being a sister and becoming an aunt. She once wrote
that her future plans would require being close to her family because “my family
is the most important thing to me.” We were blessed to have her, rejoiced when
she was doing well, and suffered mightily with her when she wasn’t. We are
devastated to be separated from her in this world but have faith in God’s
promises and His plan.
Hailey is survived by her loving parents Campbell Laney Streater and Caroline
Whitehead Streater, Cheraw, SC; brothers John C. Streater of Cheraw and James
Allen Streater (Kalin) and their children River, Emery, Eliza, and James Allan of
Johnsonville, SC; grandparents, Anne and David Whitehead of Holly Hill, SC and
James A Streater of Cheraw, SC. Survivors also include aunts and uncles James A
“Sandy” Streater II (Michael) of Savannah, Ga, John Streater (Carolyn) of Myrtle
Beach SC, Gracyn (Charles) Jackson of Cheraw, SC, Julie (Berriman) Coggeshall of
Murrells Inlet, SC, Christina Beckmann (Daniel) of Santee, SC, Laurie Weatherford
(Joey) of Holly Hill, SC, and many loving cousins. Hailey is also survived by her
biological family. She is predeceased by her grandmother Ethel Anne Laney
Streater and the family’s rescue dog, Charlie.
Memorials may be made to Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, 6500 North
Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC 29206, where they will be divided so that youth can
attend the mission trips she loved and to provide for children in need at Forest
Lake Elementary, the elementary school she attended, through the Backpack
Buddies program. She would also ask that you donate to the animal rescue and
care program of your choice.
A Celebration of Hailey’s Life will held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at
Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, led by the Reverend Doctor Ellen Skidmore.
Visitation with the family will follow immediately after the service in the parlor.
Interment at Old St. David’s Cemetery, Cheraw, SC, will take place at a future
date. The family would like to thank all the many professionals, sponsors, family,
and friends who helped Hailey in her search for peace and sobriety. You gave us
more time with our beautiful loving child. Thank you.
