Jay Lewis Hughes

Mr. Jay Lewis Hughes, 88, died on Sunday, March 9, 2025. Born on February 9, 1937 in Banner Elk, NC. He was the son of the late William Ed Hughes and Nellie Benfield Hughes.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Miriam “Frankie” Hughes of the home, daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Dino Pacifici of Charlotte, NC, grandsons, Matthew Pacifici of New York City, NY, and Nicholas Pacifici of Charlotte, NC.

Mr. Hughes business was in the paper and packaging industry. He spent 40 years with his business partner, Sam B. Woods as President of Anchor Paper Company. Mr. Hughes was also an officer with Bay Development Corporation and Anchor Trading Corporation. Over the years, time was spent serving on various civic boards. He served in the US Marine Corps as well.

The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
