Jonas Goodman “Mr. Pete” Owens, 95, (formally of Cordele, GA) died Thursday, May 18, 2017. Born in Edgecombe County, NC he was the son of the late Jonas Goodman and Martha Norville Owens and the widower of Mary Elaine Wells Owens. He was retired from Moore Brothers (Department Stores) with over 55 years of service. He had served as the Chairman of the Board for Chesterfield General Hospital, also as Chairman of Northeastern Technical College (Chesterfield-Marlboro Tec). He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Cheraw, SC where he served as Church Treasurer and as Chairman of the Administrative Board. Mr. Pete was a member of the SC Retail Merchants Association and the Malloy Foundation Board. He volunteered as a reading tutor at Cheraw Primary School. He enjoyed fishing, golf and spending time with his family.

Surviving is his son, David (Julia) Owens of Eatonton, GA, a daughter, Susan O. (Alex) Stripling of Cordele, GA, grandchildren, Kelly K. (Eric) Dusa of Cheraw, SC, Jeff (Emily) Keeney of Columbia, SC, Jay Owens of Seattle, WA, great grandchildren, Hollis Dusa and Mary Charlotte Dusa both of Cheraw, SC and Hayden Keeney of Columbia, SC.

The family will receive friends 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM, Saturday, May 20, 2017 in the Parlor of First United Methodist, Cheraw, SC.

A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM, Saturday, May 20, 2017 at First United Methodist, Cheraw, SC.
