Kathy S. Outlaw, 74, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. Born in Bennettsville to the late John Neil and Elizabeth Chavis Steen, Kathy lived a life marked by, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to her family and friends.
A member of the True Gospel Emmanuel Holiness Church in Wallace, SC, Kathy embodied a spirit of kindness and generosity. She dedicated many years of her life to the retail industry before embracing retirement, but her greatest joys were found in moments spent with those she cherished most. Kathy had a fondness for playing cards with her friends, exploring the mountains, and delighting in Halloween festivities. Known for her infectious joy, she would often say she loved to “dance and stuff!”—a testament to her playful spirit.
Kathy’s legacy lives on through her beloved family. She is survived by her son, Jeff (Heather) Outlaw of Bolivia, NC; her daughter, Jennifer Outlaw of Bennettsville; her sister, Nell (Sonny) Byrd of McColl, SC; her brother, Gary Steen of Bennettsville; and her treasured grandchildren, Zane Outlaw, Kali Crisco, and Hampton Outlaw and numerous nieces and nephews. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Bryant, Wes, Gene, James, Charles, Bruce, and Bobbie Steen, as well as her sisters Doris Kennedy, Helen Tilley, Mary Ann Moody, and Peggy Watson.
The Outlaw family will welcome friends on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kiser Funeral Home in Cheraw, SC. A graveside service to honor Kathy's life will take place on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at 3:00 PM in Chavis Cemetery, Bennettsville, SC.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be made to Crescent Hospice, located at 1370 Browning Road, Suite 120, Columbia, SC 29210.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Jennifer Edwards, Lisa Langley, Lisa Locklear, and the staff at Crescent Hospice, especially McInnis White, Crystal Taylor, and Dianna Hatcher, for their compassionate care during Kathy’s final days. Kathy S. Outlaw will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend whose warmth will forever resonate in the hearts of all who knew her.
