Margaret Steen Chavis

Mrs. Margaret Steen Chavis, 98, died on Sunday, August 21, 2022.  Born, July 7, 1924, in Marlboro County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Hope and Minnie Roscoe Steen.  Mrs. Chavis attended Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Wallace, SC when she was able.  She will be remembered as the Matriarch of the Community, always helping and loving others.  She enjoyed quilting and gardening.

Along with her parents, listed above, Margaret was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, George Wilson Chavis; 1 brother and 7 sisters.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, a son, Jimmy Chavis (Neva) of Orangeburg, SC; a daughter, Joyce McQuage (James, Sr.) of Bennettsville, SC; a sister, Frances Haithcock; and many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Wallace, SC.  Burial will follow in Chavis Family Cemetery in Bennettsville, SC.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at Kiser Funeral Home in Cheraw, SC.
