Mary M. “Snookie” Lomas, 84, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home, just as she would have wanted, on November 25, 2024.
Born on April 22, 1940, she was a daughter of the late Mollie Pearl Cooke Powers and the late James Henry McQuaige, Sr. Mary was a proud graduate of Cheraw High School and attended Columbia College in South Carolina, where she laid the foundation for her long and fulfilling career as a legal assistant. Known for her intellect, dedication, and professionalism, she made a lasting impression in her field and among her colleagues.
Mary was a woman of boundless love, faith, and energy, who took immense pride in keeping an immaculate home, inside and out. She found her greatest joy in spending time with her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was not only a devoted mother but also a true friend to her three children, offering guidance, support, and unconditional love throughout their lives.
She cherished evenings cooking alongside her beloved husband, Harold, with whom she shared an enduring and beautiful partnership. Together, they faithfully attended services on Sundays at First United Methodist Church, a reflection of their strong spiritual foundation and shared values.
Mary adored spending time at their cabin at the lake, where countless memories of laughter and togetherness were made. She was unapologetically true to herself, with a strong and honest personality that inspired all who knew her. A natural dancer, she brought music and joy into every room she entered, always laughing, smiling, and lifting others with her radiant spirit.
Mary shared a special bond with her beloved dog, Lily Poo, who brought her endless comfort and happiness.
She is survived by her sons, Harold “Todd” (Teresa) Lomas, of Huntersville, NC, Joe (Rhonda) Lomas, of Cheraw, SC, a daughter, Suzanne Owens, sisters, Patricia Ridle, of Cornelius, NC and Janet Cassidy, of Simpsonville, SC, seven grandchildren, Brent Lomas (Courtney), Brandon Lomas (Journey), Kelby Lomas Petrucelli (Tyler), Harold “Tanner” Lomas, Robert Owens, Ryan Owens and Shae Lomas; and four great-grandchildren, McKensley Lomas, Hunter Lomas, Salem Lomas and Bexley Lomas.-who will forever cherish her legacy of love, resilience, and authenticity.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Lomas, a brother, Jimmy McQuaige and a son-in-law, Dr. Bill Owens.
A celebration of Mary’s extraordinary life will be held at a date and location to be announced soon.

Mary “Snookie” Lomas will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who danced through life with joy, grace, and faith, leaving an enduring impact on all who knew her.
