South Carolina native Nan Myers Bradham, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 1, 2025

Nan was born on August 11, 1941, in Sumter, SC, to the late Marion and Nell Dunbar Myers. A voracious reader and studious pupil from a young age, she parlayed her passion for literature into a career as an English teacher. In her final semester at Winthrop University, a recruiter from Orangeburg Public Schools persuaded Nan that if she joined his middle school faculty, she’d find her future husband currently teaching in the Math department. Less concerned about marriage and more about introducing the works of her favorite authors like Thomas Wolfe to the next generation of students, she enthusiastically accepted the available position, but she ended up falling in love with the Math teacher down the hall all the same. On February 6, 1965, she married Joe Thomas Bradham, Jr. with whom she shared a loving and joyful life for over 50 years. Their careers in education took them to Orangeburg, SC; Boone, NC; and then eventually Cheraw, SC, where they raised their three children and retired.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Nan cherished time spent with family and friends. Known for her compassionate nature, she had an innate ability to listen and comfort those who sought her guidance. She valued the art of letter writing and expressed her thoughts through heartfelt notes of appreciation.

A woman of impeccable character, Nan was steadfast in her principles and committed to doing the right thing. A member of Cheraw First Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School and was an active member of the Victory Sunday School Class.

With a lively spirit known for her delightful sense of humor, she often brought joy and laughter to gatherings. She enjoyed opening up her home to friends for Book Club and Bridge, socializing at neighborhood dinner parties, and dancing the occasional Shag. She appreciated the beauty in nature, admiring the splendor of fall foliage on a drive with Joe and the kids, or relishing in the delight of a new bloom in her garden in Spring.

And as a true Southern belle, Nan was never seen in public without her signature red lipstick.

In addition to her parents, Nan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe Thomas Bradham, Jr., and her brother, Judge Marion Myers.

She is survived by her sons, Joseph Thomas Bradham, III and his husband, Charles Gainey of Florence, SC, and Nicholas Myers Bradham and his husband, Brett England, of New York, NY; her daughter, Laura Bradham Clark and her partner, Chris Hall, of Gastonia, NC; her cherished grandchildren, Reis Clark, Avery Clark, and Huck Bradham-England; and her sisters-in-law, Phyllis Causey of Conway, SC, and Barbara Jean Bradham of Charleston, SC.

A memorial service honoring Nan's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2025, in the Sanctuary of Cheraw First Baptist Church, located in Cheraw, SC. The family will welcome friends in the Foyer of the Family Life Center following the service.
