R. Grant

Cheraw, SC

R. Laverne Grant , 61, died Saturday, November 17, 2012.  Born in Bennettsville, SC, he was the son of Margaret Caulder Grant of Wallace, SC and the late Reginal Grant.   Laverne had served his community in many ways, as a past member of the Wallace Rescue Squad, a lifetime member of the Cheraw Rescue Squad, a Cub and Boy Scout Leader, on the Parks and Recreation Commission and as a Coach in baseball, basketball and soccer. He was an Environmental Systems Operator with Davis and Brown Construction.  Laverne enjoyed working crossword puzzles, gardening, sports and helping with the Methodist Church Bar-B-Q.

Surviving are his wife, Norma Elaine Pierce Grant of Cheraw, SC, a son, Neil (Alicia) Grant of Florence, SC, daughters, Elizabeth (Grady) Burton of Charleston, SC, Elaine Grant of Cheraw, SC, his mother listed above, a sister, Sylvia (Ronnie) Conner of Florence, SC, grandchildren, Isabelle and Liliana Burton.

The family will receive friends 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, November 19, 2012 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

A funeral service will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church, Cheraw, SC. Burial will be in Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Wallace, SC.
