Samuel Yancey

Cheraw, SC

Samuel Lewis Yancey passed away from a hard-fought battle with melanoma on August 6, 2024, with his loving wife by his side. Sam married his high school sweetheart, Lisa Witherspoon in 1989. They shared 35 years of marriage. Sam attended Cheraw High School. He and Lisa resided in Clinton, SC, Greenwood, SC and Murrells Inlet, SC before returning to live in Cheraw in 2021.

Sam was a fun, loving man who thrived on making others laugh. He never met a stranger and was always the life of the party. He loved his family and friends above all, but he also enjoyed walking on the beach. He was a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He loved music and movies and had this uncanny ability of remembering details of movies and the names of actors and musical artists.

Sam was the son of the late MSgt. John Medford Yancey, II, US Army, and the late Sharron Vance Clarke. He is survived by his wife, Lisa Witherspoon Yancey; his two sons, Justin James Yancey (Betsy) of Fort Carson, CO, Joseph Dillon Yancey of Cheraw, SC; his three grandchildren, Kaleigh, Wyatt and Charlotte; and his brother, John Medford Yancey, III of Cheraw, SC. Sam had a mother-in-law, numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, and nieces whom he loved dearly.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, August 10, 2024, in the Chapel of Kiser Funeral Home. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.

And in Sam’s famous last words… “Go Cowboys!”

Kiser Funeral Home has been entrusted to serve the Yancey family in their time of grief.
