Scott Tomberlin

Cheraw, SC

Mr. Scott William Tomberlin, age 62, passed away at his home on September 18th, 2023 with family by his side. Scott, the son of the late Bill and Betty Tomberlin of Cheraw, SC, was born in Concord, New Hampshire. He was a 1979 graduate of Cheraw High School and worked for multiple companies in Cheraw, SC before retiring, after 20 years, from Dixie Pipeline, where he served as a union rep. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, serving on the daycare committee and enjoyed cooking for the barbeque alongside many close friends. He was also active in the Cheraw community where he started the Firecracker Charity Tournament alongside friends Jap Roddy and Lee Wilkerson.

Scott loved his family and friends more than anything. He loved playing and watching golf as well as cards. He loved ‘messing’ with his 5 chickens and fixing everything. There wasn’t much that he couldn’t fix, but if he didn’t know how to fix it, he “googled” it until he understood what to do. Scott was always “piddling” around and working on something. Cancer couldn’t stop that. He knew a lot about a lot of things. His family loved to pick on him about all of his “useless” knowledge. He enjoyed all things history, true crime, nature, and other various trivia that he could remember on a moment’s notice or just casually say in passing. He also believed that “Bigfoot” WAS real!

Scott leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Jennifer, his sister, Susie Tomberlin Burgess and husband Mike of Wagener, SC, his son, Jensen Stacey Tomberlin, his daughters, Mason Foster and Jacquelyn Bette Tomberlin, and his grandbaby-sweet Alma ScottTomberlin, whom he adored. She was so blessed to have a year with her “Pop-Pop.” His family was his life, and he was involved in everything they did. He pushed all of them to just bethemselves and give their all in everything they did. He was the “Best Deddy in the World.” He is survived by many aunts, uncles, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He also had many lifelong friends who he considered his brothers.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Stacey Frank Tomberlin, and his mother and father listed above. What a joy it will be to see them and tell them all about his crazy wonderful adventures through life.

A celebration of his life and burial service will be held graveside at Mt. Olivet Methodist Church in Teals Mill on Friday, September 22nd at 4pm. The family would like you to visit them in their home afterwards.

Memorials can be made to the following: Caring House, 2625 Pickett Road, Durham, NC 27705, (where Scott spent many nights during radiation).
