Sue Turner Cullum, 94, died peacefully in the early morning hours of Thursday, December 7, 2023 at her home in Rolling Green Village in Greenville SC. Born in Taylors, SC on January 31, 1929, Sue was the daughter of the late William Ervin Turner and Pearl Allen Turner. Her parents raised her and her five siblings in a loving Christian home in Taylors. After graduation from Taylors High School and while working at Southern Bleachery Mill, she met the love of her life – William Ridgewell (Dick) Cullum - when they both were working there. Sue and Dick soon married and began raising a family. Sue was the proud mother of three sons, and followed in the footsteps of her parents and raised them in a Christian family.
As Sue and her husband moved to several South Carolina cities and towns over the years for his textile career, they were always devoted members in a local Baptist church in the town where they lived. They always formed a set of lifelong friendships at those churches in Cheraw, Rock Hill, Spartanburg, Townville, and Mauldin. They served in many positions of leadership in their churches.
In 1989 Sue and Dick moved to their beloved Lake Hartwell house in Townville, SC where they continued to build relationships and lifetime memories with their kids, grandkids, and Townville friends; and enjoyed a relaxing retirement on the water’s edge. Twelve years later they relocated to Rolling Green Village Retirement Community in Greenville, where Sue spent many wonderful years with friends and nearby family. Sue and Dick were blessed with 53 years of marriage before his death in 2005.
Survivors include: sister Lois (Don) Turner of Greenville, SC; sons Dickie (Dianne) Cullum of Myrtle Beach SC; Greg (Lisa) Cullum of Hartwell, GA; and Mark (Geni) Cullum of Rock Hill, SC; grandchildren Matt (Tamara) Cullum of Annapolis, MD; Allison (Robbie) Foreman of Moncks Corner, SC; Callie (AJ) Medford of Atlanta, GA; Anna Cullum of Charleston, SC; Jake Cullum of Rock Hill, SC; Julian Cullum of Brisbane, Australia; and Mackenzie Cullum of Decatur; GA; great grandchildren Lorelei Cullum, Blaise Cullum, Emmery Foreman, Marlee Foreman, Gibson Foreman, Stivenson Foreman, Sonora Medford, Olivia Cullum and Victoria Cullum; and 5 nieces and 5 nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband listed above; and brothers Hugh Turner and Bill Turner, and sisters Francis Lollis and Cornelia Spencer.
